RLCF Teams Up with Pender Island Fire Protection Society
The Pender Island has been a home base for the Conconi Family for over two decades, so when the Foundation was approached by the Pender Island Fire Protection Society (PIFPS) to help raise funds, we of course said yes.
In June 2014, we donated $25,000 in grant, and agreed to kick off a summer long campaign to raise funds from local residents and property owners that will then additionally be matched by us to the tune of $75,000. The funds are being raised for construction of a Live-Fire Training Facility that will serve islands of: Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Piers, Salt Spring and Saturna.
The facility will be used for on-going training of 150-plus volunteer firefighters serving the Southern Gulf Islands. But it’s usefulness goes even beyond that, as it can accommodate training for other regional organizations including law enforcement, emergency service, public service and other. More than 17,500 residents, $6.2 million worth of property, and 35 square kilometers of National Parks will benefit from having this facility built.
RLCF is asking residents of Southern Gulf Islands [and property owners], to donate to PIFPS by September 30, 2014. Individual donations of up to $250 each will be matched. To make your donation please visit www.penderfire.org.
Pender Island Fire Protection Society (PIFPS) is a registered not-for-profit, with a mandate from the Capital Regional District (CRD) to provide Fire and Rescue services to North and South Pender Islands.
