Covenant House Vancouver
WHO
Covenant House Vancouver groups its services into three categories: Community Support Services including Street Outreach and a Drop-In Centre, the Crisis Shelter, and the Rights of Passage (ROP), supportive housing program.
WHAT
The funding helped reorganize programs and services so more young women can be reached and safely housed at the Covenant House. Majority of the funding was dedicated to the Rights of Passage, supportive housing program. This program is so crucial to actually getting youth to fully and permanently transition off the streets. The ROP offers support, counseling, coaching, life-skills education, housing and safety, all equally important to making a lasting switch to full independence.
WHY
Youth homelessness was on the rise but there have been specific challenges with young women.Theyare not as visible on the streets as young women tend to stay more in unsafe or exploitative situations, there was a need for more intentional creation of space and opportunities for those women to come forward and feel safe at a place like Covenant House.
WILD CARD
The Conconi Challenge campaign was set up in a typically slow fundraising month, June. It was meant to engage donors at every level. It was also the first non-anonymous donor match campaign for the organization. Together, we were able to turn $150K into nearly $1M.
