Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry at UBC

Who

With anchor funding from the Conconi Family Foundation, the University of British Columbia was able to unlock federal support from PacifiCan to bring the Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry to life, the first space in western Canada designed specifically to support innovation in biomedical engineering.

What

The Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry is a place where big ideas meet the tools to bring them to life. Located in UBC’s School of Biomedical Engineering, microdevice fabrication and life sciences research work side by side under one roof, sparking the kind of collaboration that turns bold concepts into real-world health solutions. With the space, technology, and support scientists need, the Foundry is building B.C.’s strength in biomedical innovation and taking on some of the most pressing health challenges facing our communities and the world.

Why

We all want the best possible care for ourselves and the people we love. Imagine knowing that the life-changing technology you need was created right here at home. That’s what the new Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry makes possible. By opening its doors, the Foundry unlocks cutting-edge processes and innovations designed in B.C. and built to improve lives everywhere. Here, the creativity of students, the expertise of faculty, and the passions of the broader community come together, transforming bold ideas into advanced health care solutions we can all access.

Wild Card

With philanthropy as a catalyst, the Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry is building stronger partnerships between academia, industry, and the public sector. The Biodevice Foundry boosts UBC’s research capacity, while giving external partners access to space and specialized equipment, opening new doors for innovation and discovery.
