The charitable landscape in Canada is constantly evolving. At RLCF, we use many resources to ensure we’re up-to-date on non-profit news, strategy and innovation. Today, we are sharing 5 of the resources we love!
- Philanthropic Foundations Canada
- Even before officially joining the member association, the PFC was a great resource to us. While they provide additional resources for their members covering a wide range of topics, they also offer thought-leadership pieces from their President looking at the future of non-profit. Their website also includes a thorough look at the non-profit landscape of Canada.

- Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR)
- The SSIR is an award-winning magazine covering social change and global problems. By bringing together nonprofit, business, and government, SSIR focuses on social needs and problems, rather than sectors.
This post from 2011 highlights collective impact and the importance of cross-sector coordination.
- Homeless Hub
- As one part of our Mission, RLCF supports organizations in the area of poverty. To fully understand the issue, we use Homeless Hub, a web-based research library and information centre launched in 2007 to address the need for a single place to homelessness information from across Canada. The website now includes over 30,000 resources, including annual reports, toolkits, frameworks, and solutions-focused content.
Start with the basics with Homelessness 101, a great starting point for research.
- Vancouver Foundation
- The Vancouver Foundation is Canada’s largest community foundation and every year they fund hundreds of innovative projects in the areas of arts and culture, education, youth issues, the environment, and more. They also engage citizens, government, and organizations to work together and ensure the best results.
One of many initiatives, Fostering Change looks at how we can address youth homelessness by looking at their transition out of foster care.
- Imagine Canada
- This organization exists to work alongside other charitable sector organizations, and provides programs and resources that help strengthen charities and their opportunities, so they can, in turn, support the communities they serve. Their resources include databases, research and facts, tax prep, and much more. Imagine Canada’s blog is also a great resource, providing analysis on various issues that affect Canadian charities, such as crowdfunding and oil prices.
