RLCF Donates $100,000 to Hearts Helping Hearts 2014
RLCF has grown up along side the Heart and Stroke Gala, [both were started around the same time], which is why we were so honoured to be a part of the 10th annual Heart of Gold Gala in such a meaningful way. And what an event it was—this year the Gala raised a record $920,000! We were even more delighted to learn that in a some way we helped inspire the new format of Hearts Helping Hearts program.
The “Hearts Helping Hearts” is a fundraising initiative that through the years helped raise over $1.3 million [inclusive of this year] of funding needed to fulfill the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s mission. This year, a total of $336,000 was raised through Hearts Helping Hearts, roughly a third of the total amount raised since the program was first initiated!
RLCF provided a $100,000 leadership gift to help match 10 gifts of $10,000 to support research [and create new knowledge to perform life saving, prevention and recovery techniques].
In 60 years, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has funded over $1.35 billion in research, helping to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease by 75% since 1952. But they don’t stop there, the HSF aims to reduce deaths from heart disease and stroke by a further 25% by 2020. Just recently, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has committed $300 million over 10 years to fund long-term research at the leading universities and hospitals.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation believes in healthy lives free of heart disease and stroke, and that together we can make it happen. To learn how, please visit their website at heartandstroke.com.
