5 Key Takeaways from Our Weekend in Victoria
This past weekend our Executive Director, Sanja, went to Victoria to attend the 9th annual Jingle Mingle hosted by the BC Cancer Foundation, and tour the Deeley Research Centre, which will house the new Conconi Family Immunotherapy Lab. During our visit, we were able to get a sneak peek at the plans for the Immunotherapy Lab, and learned a few new things along the way.
Here are our top 5 key takeaways from our weekend in Victoria:
2. Over the last 9 years, the annual Jingle Mingle in Victoria has raised just under $5 million for the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA).
3. The Deeley Research Centre will be home to the new Conconi Family Immunotherapy Lab- we got a sneak peek at the plans with Dr. Nelson and Dr. Webb. Stay tuned for more information in the New Year!
4. The BC Cancer Agency is on track to begin immunotherapy clinical trails in early 2017. As a reminder the trails will bring Adoptive T-cell Therapy to patients. This is a personalized treatment that enables a patient’s immune system to recognize and destroy cancer cells throughout the body.
5. The long-term goal remains to have immunotherapy become a new standard of care (similar to chemo and radiation) for certain types of cancers.
We can’t wait to share more exciting announcements on the Conconi Family Immunotherapy Lab in the New Year, stay tuned!
