Aging Well In BC

Timeline: 2020-2030

We’re currently in year 4 of our funding focus on improving the quality of lives for older adults in B.C. Guiding our work is the question How can we shift to a new model of care that supports people to age in community, with the dignity, autonomy, kindness, and stability we’d want for ourselves?

To tackle this question from a systems change perspective, we’re actively funding three priority areas to help alleviate pain points experienced repeatedly by older adults and those tasked with service delivery:

  1. Revitalizing long-term care
  2. Support in community aging
  3. Sector building capacity

Why are we focusing on these priorities? We’re well aware of the operational, economic, demographic, and human resource challenges impacting health care, so we’re looking to back sustainable, cost-effective solutions that have a measurable and meaningful impact on quality of life.

If you’re working in any of these areas, feel free to reach out to us. In the meantime, you can learn more about our current partnerships below.

Donate: Distinguished Scholar In Seniors Care

The Distinguished scholars in Seniors Care will embed research at the forefront of service delivery. This will help create meaningful evidence so that knowledge users [of all levels] can put these practical insights into action.

Join us in fundraising for the inaugural Distinguished Scholar.

Donate: Providence Living

Providence Living is a visionary, non-profit long-term care operator pioneering a new model of care—one that prioritizes residents’ social and relational well-being alongside medical outcomes. Their work is guided by an evidence-informed framework for implementing change across their provincial network of publicly funded care homes.

Donate: UBC BioDevice Foundry

The Biodevice Foundry at UBC SBME is an investment in core infrastructure and, more importantly, the multidisciplinary team that will power scientific innovation in academia and the private sector in Western Canada. Our hope is the Biodevice Foundry accelerates clinical research from bench to beside so that British Columbians can see improved health outcomes.

Health Justice

Bringing together lived experience, legal, policy, and clinical expertise to explore how the mental health act is used in long-term care facilities in B.C.

Pallium Canada

The B.C. Palliative Care Atlas is an interactive tool that shows how palliative care is distributed across British Columbia. It helps identify areas where care is strong and places where there are gaps, making it easier for decision-makers to understand and improve services.
